Eggs (doz)

Eggs (doz)

We partner with a local family in Willard to bring our customers farm fresh eggs.

Meet Silvina from Willard whose small flock of laying hens makes it possible for you to have an omelet.
My name is Silvina Richardson, I'm a housewife and a stay at home mom. I enjoy keeping myself busy with fun things that also help sustain my family. We are fairly new to the area (2 years) so far its felt like home and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but right here in the Ozarks.

How long have you had laying hens?

Since we bought our first home that actually allowed chickens.

How & why did you start?

Initially we started with 6 hens, of course I kept adding more and eventually started hatching our own in an incubator I received for Christmas from a family member.

What do you enjoy most about having egg laying chickens?

THE EGGS, obviously, its also a learning experience. Problems arise when caring for animals but finding solutions and having happy pecky chickens is a motivator. plus, THE EGGS HAHA. They are also the funniest little creatures to watch roam around. We free range (pasture) 100 percent of the day.

What are some challenges you encounter?

I think we have hit them all, from predators to weird chicken attitudes to egg reduction, to chickens crossing the road (didn't end well).

Anything else you want to share?

I'm really just trying to build a healthy home, feed my family local healthy food and learn the lost art of growing your own food, canning, caring for animals and thanking God for it all.
