If you’ve ever stood in your kitchen at 5 pm and realized 👉 you forgot to thaw the meat
You’re not alone.
It happens in our house too.
And instead of letting dinner plans fall apart, here's the simple method I use to brown frozen meat like ground beef or pork sausage.
Can You Cook Pork Sausage from Frozen?
Yes—you absolutely can.
Cooking frozen pork sausage is safe, simple, and one of the easiest ways to stay on track with your meal plan when the day doesn’t go as expected.
The Method I Use (Straight from My Kitchen)
Here’s exactly how I cook frozen pork sausage:
- Place the frozen sausage in a skillet
- Add a small amount of water (just enough to cover the bottom of the pan)
- Cover with a lid and turn the heat to medium
- Cook undisturbed for 10-15 minutes.
This first step gently steams the sausage so it can thaw and cook through evenly.
Then...
- Remove the lid
- Use a spatula to begin breaking apart the cooked meat
- Let the water cook off
- Continue cooking, allowing the water to cook off and using a spatula to break apart the cooked meat
At this point, you’re just finishing it like you normally would—browning it and getting that good flavor.
Why This Method Works
The key is the two-step process:
Steam first → brown second
The steam helps:
- thaw the meat safely
- cook it evenly
- prevent burning the outside while the inside is still frozen
Then once the water cooks off, you get the browning and flavor you want.
Why Farm-Raised Sausage Makes This Even Better
Our pork sausage is hand seasoned and ground in small batches creating a flavor and texture you won't find in grocery store sausage.
Even on a night when you’re cooking from frozen, the flavor is already there.
That’s one of the reasons keeping sausage in the freezer is such a win—it turns into a full meal without much extra work.
A Freezer Habit That Saves Dinner
This method is one simple strategy you can keep in your back pocket for the nights that dinner plans go awry.
When you have sausage on hand, you always have options:
- breakfast for dinner
- pasta
- skillet meals
- quick protein for busy nights
Even if you forget to plan ahead… you’re still covered.
